I must carry a small note-book (digital devices are anathema…I still prefer the tactile experience of pen and paper) to get ideas down as soon as they strike, otherwise they’re
often lost in the ether.
Some of the strip ideas come from the news cycle;there’s some pretty surreal things going on at the moment. Example…the joke about the French Govt. considering a law that would make it a crime to “incite thinn-ness” stems from the tragic death of a fashion model from anorexia.
The “bad idea” strip is linked to legislation inspired by Global Warming hysteria…just what we need; government telling us what kind of light bulb we must use/ what kind of car we must drive (California is out-lawing black cars).
The “packet of seeds” limerick was inspired by David Niven’s autobiography that I read years ago. He was asked if he knew any poetry at an audition. He responded by reciting this limerick and got the part! Some things are just etched in my brain; this limerick is one. The theme song from McKenna’s Gold, “Old Turkey Buzzard, sung by Jose Feliciano is another.
I don’t know if “weasel’s piss” is American or English slang…who cares! For me it accurately describes the character of Budweiser and a few others.
